Healthcare Management M.S.

Healthcare management M.S. for working professionals — Department of Healthcare Management, Yonsei University Graduate School of Public Health

Studying healthcare management while working

People looking into a graduate degree in healthcare management while employed tend to ask the same questions: can I keep working, does my undergraduate major matter, and do I have to write a thesis?

This page answers those questions for the Department of Healthcare Management at the Yonsei University Graduate School of Public Health, where I serve as program advisor.

Who joins the program

Most students study while working. They include hospital administration and planning staff, nurses and medical technologists, and people from pharmaceutical companies, medical device companies, and public agencies such as the National Health Insurance Service.

A business degree is not required. Students come from public health, nursing, public administration, and other fields, and build the foundations they need through coursework.

Classes and graduation

The program runs for five semesters, with evening classes on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. A thesis is optional, so students can graduate without one if their work schedule requires it.

Several scholarships are available, including general, special, and academic merit scholarships.

What you will study and research

The program focuses on revisiting problems from the workplace through the lens of healthcare management. A question that has stayed with you at work often becomes a good research question.

The lab works in three areas.

  • Healthcare Management: organization and performance of healthcare institutions
  • Biohealth Industry: strategy and innovation in the pharmaceutical, medical device, and digital health industries
  • Digital Health: how technologies such as medical AI and wearable devices are adopted and actually used in hospitals and care settings

Methods are chosen by topic from statistical, network, and text analysis. Students learn these methods through coursework and lab work.

The research areas are described in more detail in the Biohealth Industry program guide.

Advisor

The advisor, Munjae Lee, studies healthcare management and the healthcare industry, and was named among the Stanford/Elsevier World's Top 2% Scientists in 2025 and 2026, including the career-long list in 2026.
